On Friday, April 26, 2013, a fun-filled hoedown was presented at the Leesport Farmers Market hall by Berks Country Magazine and Reading Eagle Company to benefit the fundraising campaign of Reading Eagle president & CEO Peter Barbey for the annual Olivet Boys & Girls Club Kiss-A-Pig program. The program raises funds to help the Olivet club in its mission to serve the needs of youth in our region. The hoedown was a big success with more than 350 participants Three different styles of hoedown calling were presented by regional callers Ken Saul, Lester Miller and Keith Brintzenhoff. Music was provided by East Side Dave & The Mountain Folk Band. Food was provided by Terry Schaeffer and Chuck Wagon Old Fashioned Soda. Flowers and decorations provided by Temple Greenhouse and Spayd's Greenhouse. Special dance exhibition guests were the GTV Edelweiss Dancers from the Reading Liederkranz. Volunteers who helped to make the event possible were members of the Reading Eagle Kiss-A-Pig committee including Peter Barbey, Bev Boyer, Walt Woolwine, Rich Auman, John Ernesto and Dave Kline. Other Reading Eagle volunteers included staff members from all divisions of the company including Reading Eagle Press and WEEU Radio. This video provides a quick look at some of the sights and sounds from a very fun and worthwhile evening.
