GALES of 60 miles per hour battered Annan Harbour. Several boats at the quayside had earlier been taking part in a Harbour Festival. One crew made a valiant efforts to prevent damage by creating cushion of wood and inflatables between the side of the vessel and the quayside. They successfully protected the Nith-based catamaran Happy Cat -- despite driving gales and a high tide. Waves lapped the harbour walls as the tide powered through riverside channels. Mother nature appeared to be giving recent improvements carried out at the centuries-old harbour an early test.
