The State Minister for Finance Matia Kasaija says the Bill that provides for a regulatory framework to facilitate safe development and application of biotechnology has not been suspended. The National Biotechnology and Biosafety Bill, 2012, which also provides for a regulatory framework for the development and general release of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in Uganda was tabled in Parliament in February last year but is yet to be debated. Kasaija’s comments come amid reports that the bill was suspended.
