This lesson introduces one of the most diverse rhythmic cycles, kaherva tala. There are many forms of this cycle that could be used anywhere from kirtans, harinams, and Ratha Yatras, to semiclassical and classical bhajans, to folk music.

Kaherva tala has eight beats divided 4+4. This lesson examines the theka.

Vibhag 1: dhā ghe nā ti
Vibhag 2: nā ka dhin nā

After watching this lesson, please watch Part 2 to practice this cycle in a Jaya Jagannatha kirtana.
