This video was made as a direct response to the "Call of Duty: Black Ops" video game commercial that has been on for some time now. The video is a horrific meshing of celebrities, playful gaming, and the deadly environment of war. Positing the mantra "Theres a soldier in all of us" declares our fascination with war is not yet over, and gift-wrapping foreign policy in a video game could be a potentially bad idea.
I used 2 projections, directly opposite each other, while standing in military garb in the center. The left is the Black Ops commercial, and the right contains a slideshow of appropriated photographs of war, from World War 1 all the way up to the current Gulf War. I superimposed the text from the commercial on all of these images, asking the viewer to reconcile this mantra put forth by the video game.
The words spoken are from the Statement of Principles philosophy of the Project for the New American Century (past members including Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfield, Jeb Bush, Steve Forbes, Paul Wolfowitz).

For my Performance Art Class, this piece involved mediated imagery with layered audio and projected video. The first time I saw the Call of Duty commercial I was pretty horrified. It is a glorification of violence and war and, however harmless a video game may be, the psychological impacts and political ramifications are great. I projected this commercial on the left, with a slideshow of popular war images on the right overlaid with the "Theres a soldier in all of us" text across each one. Its a commentary on war, America's obsession with violence, and the future of our global military ventures.

Politics and Hollywood's images are linked. They reinforce one another. Policy enforces mythical images; mythical images help enforce policy. Jack Valenti, president of the Motion Picture Association of America, has said, quote, "Washington and Hollywood spring from the same DNA," end-quote. - JACK SHAHEEN, director of Reel Bad Arabs
