Thunder Women's Basketball Remains Perfect in MIAA with Win over Alma

ANGOLA, Ind.—The No. 25 Trine women's basketball team won its 13th straight game on Saturday afternoon with a 75-48 victory over Alma. The win-streak is the second longest in school history.

Trine is on its best start in school history, and with the win, boasts a 14-1 overall record and is perfect against the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association with a 7-0 mark. Alma falls to 4-11 and 3-4 MIAA.

The Thunder has held 11 opponents to 50 points or less this season. Its last three opponents have scored exactly 48 points. The Thunder is ranked 13th in the nation in scoring defense.

Brandi Dawson (Garrett, Ind./Garrett) got Trine on the board first with a jump shot. The Thunder jumped out to a 9-0 lead with senior Taylor Cole (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Shepherd) assisting on all four baskets. Dawson led Trine with nine points in the first quarter, while Hayley Martin (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) added eight points and three rebounds. The Thunder scored 13 points off of Alma's nine turnovers. Trine held a 25-8 lead after the first.

The Thunder opened the second quarter on a 13-0 run. Trine players notched assists on its first 13 made field goals in the first half. The Thunder added another 25 points to hold a 50-21 lead going into halftime. Fifty points marks a season high for the Thunder in the first half.

Trine continued to outshoot the Scots in the third by a close 14-12 margin. Martin had three blocked shots in the quarter.

Dawson led the Thunder with 19 points and added three steals. The Thunder sophomore has hit double digits in scoring in five straight games. Hayley Martin totaled 17 points and had a team-high seven rebounds. Cole notched a career high seven assists, and the Thunder senior had three steals to move into ninth in the Trine career record books. Sophomore Montana Martin (Columbia City, Ind./Churubusco) added 16 points, three blocks and three steals.
