New Belgium Brewing's Tour de Fat is a travelling show that helps raise money for local advocacy groups in the cities it visits. BicycleSPACE was on hand at the first ever Tour de Fat held in Washington DC.
To everyone's delight, there was a huge turn out of costumed bikers who took to the streets for a bike parade that winded down the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail. We brought along our music bike, The Monkey Wagon, to add to the lively atmosphere. It was great to see so many people of all ages getting into the spirit.
As the day progressed, there were many fun carnival games to play, talented music acts, and of course good food and beer! The Game Show in which New Belgium gave away a bike was a real crowd pleaser.
BicycleSPACE was especially excited to cheer on Veronica Davis, co-founder of Black Women Bike: DC, who won a contest to give up her car for a year and trade it in for a new bike. We can't wait to help her pick out her new wheels and document her experience living without a car for the first time in her life.
Thanks so much to New Belgium Brewing for bringing the Fat! And, a grateful tip of the hat to WABA for inviting them to town and making this event possible.
