Haddonfield HS Press Conference. September 10, 2012 (Transcript Below)

Governor Christie: That's good news. A month ago he said it was $542 million. I mean this guy can't get it right. A month ago you put screaming headlines on the front page of the paper saying that the state was going to have a $542 million shortfall. I told you it was wrong. Now he's admitted that he was wrong by more than 50%. So let's give him another month, he'll probably be down to $100 million. I wish that OLS would stop playing politics. What was the use of the memo a month ago that the Democrats in the legislature dutifully leaked all of you to scare people and say that it was $542 million? Now he says 253, you said?

Jenna Portnoy: Uh-huh.

Governor Christie: Good. Let's give him another month, I bet it will be down to 120. Give him another month after that I bet it will be down to 60.

Jenna Portnoy: So what numbers do you trust then?

Governor Christie: The numbers that we put out in CAFR at the end of the year when you have -- there's five different taxes that we don't even have the receipts for Fiscal Year 2012. So I don't know how he comes to that conclusion. There are five different taxes that we don't have any final numbers for yet. That's why you wait for CAFR which usual comes in December or January depending upon when all the final receipts come in for 2012 to tell you how you did versus your projection. And that's why all of this stuff is blatantly political. $542 million a month ago Jenna. Instead of asking me -- I can't explain their numbers, how am I supposed to explain numbers that are so drastically wrong a month apart? Why aren't you at David Rosen's office asking the good doctor, how was he $285 million wrong in a month? And what's his number going to be next month when he writes another politically motivated memo to a Democrat to try to leak to give an excuse not give people some of their money back.
