Spirit Defeat Sting 5-2 in Game 5 of Series

On Friday night, the Saginaw Spirit traveled to Sarnia's RBC Centre to take on the Sting in game 5 of the series! The Spirit would defeat the Sting by a score of 5-2. Dalton Young, Michael Fine and Brandon Saad would score goals for the Spirit.

At the 50 second mark of the opening period, Dalton Young found the top corner of the net over the glove of Sarnia's goalie J.P. Anderson to give the Spirit a quick 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Brandon Saad would dig the puck out of the corner and find Michael Fine in front of the net to score the second goal of the game for the Spirit. Brandon Saad would then score a goal of his own at the 15:35 mark on a breakaway to extend the Spirit lead to 3-0.

1:13 into the second period, Dalton Young would score his second goal of the game extending the lead to 4-0. Saad and Strong would get credit for the assist. Sarnia would get onto the scoreboard at the 15:20 mark of the period when Brett Thompson would score for the Sting. The second period would end with the Spirit up 4-1 over the Sting.

Brett Thompson would score his second goal of the game late in the third period, bringing the Sting within two goals of the Spirit, 4-2. J.P. Anderson would be pulled with just over a minute to play, and at the 18:54 mark, Brandon Saad would notch his second goal of the game to take a three goal lead over the Sarnia to make the score 5-2. Jake Paterson made 31 saves in net for the Spirit.

The Spirit now lead the best of seven series 3-2 with the series shifting back to Saginaw on Saturday March 31st at The Dow Event Center at 7:11pm.
