SOTA Songwriter's showcase May 14, 2013
With exclusive commentary by my brother and friends.

Can anybody hear me? Let me know if it's still worth it to waste my time, to waste my breath.
Pretending to be human to impress the ones around me and kill the things killing me.
All the voices, all the spiders, and the nightmares were imaginary enemies
But all the demons, all the monsters, and the beasts: they were always me.

If you can hear me, let me know...

That you're alive and that you care.
That you're alone and that you're scared just like me.

'Cause if I've learned anything in the past year, it's that I hate everything that surrounds me.
And that love is only for those smart enough not to question motives
Or wonder why they feel alone when they're with those they claim to love.

If you can hear me, let me know...

The other night I had a dream about a stranger,
And she was beautiful, no gorgeous, like flowers on a grave.
Now everytime I close my eyes I see her face and I scream.
Save yourself: it's too late for me!

Like a bouquet of gorgeous flowers all worn away and dry,
I keep painting them bright colors praying "God, don't let them die on me"
But it's too late for me to save them, he has answered; and he said no.
He said "son, it's just their time, unclench your fist and let them go."

So I'll stay right where I belong: in the here and now with a gallon of kerosene,
With all of these bridges behind me, and the worst is still to come.
But the bridges don't burn as well as they used to and I'm running out of matches,
So if the bullets don't echo or carry far enough, then engrave my name in the shell of the last one.

I'm done with this.
