NORTH AMERICAN SNOWMOBILE CHAMPIONSHIPS
MUNISING, MICHIGAN, early part of 1960's
Munising Michigan, Elm Avenue, Weiland's Grill, the original Alger County Courthouse....all of it is here in this exciting compilation of Wally Ahlborn's 8mm home movies taken in a blinding blizzard!
If you lived in Munising in the early 60's, and stood on Elm Avenue watching those antique snow machines for the first "North American Snowmobile Championship" chances are pretty good that ole Scoop took film of YOU!
They started down at the dock, made their way up Elm---there is Zank, directing traffic---and reconnoitered at the old Courthouse. Ban...they're off! Down Elm avenue in a cloud of snow!!! See all the old snow machines as they roared past Mather High School....past Putvins corner, the Candy Kitchen, all those old places!
See the old road graders clearing the streets...and watch em all disappear into the blizzard as they headed out to Grand Island in the worst white-out in recorder history.....
