Wajahat Habibullah, the first chief information commissioner under the RTI Act, while speaking at a seminar organised by Moneylife Foundation in Mumbai on 15 October 2011 told the audience about the history of the RTI Act. He also spoke about the scope and potential of the RTI Act 2005.

Moneylife Foundation held a seminar on "Rights to Information (RTI) and The Way Forward", with speeches given by Mr Habibullah, the first Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) under the RTI Act and Mr Anil Divan, a senior advocate with the Supreme Court. The seminar was focused on RTI and the importance of the tool to fight corruption.

Mr Wajahat Habibullah, was the former chief information commissioner of the Government of India (October 2005 -- September 2010). As an IAS officer from 1968 until his retirement in August 2005, Mr Habibullah held several important offices and was secretary to the Government of India in the ministry of panchayati raj (local government) before his appointment as the CIC. He currently heads the Minorities Commission. He also serves on the International Advisory Council of the Brookings Doha Centre.
