Shane Warne: That Ball to Strauss - Ashes 2005
"The Strauss Ball" from the 2005 Ashes 0:59. All the reaction surrounding one of Shane Warne's greatest deliveries.
It's a delivery that is famous to many cricket fans worldwide but perhaps it is not known in what context.
It was the 2nd day of what turned out to be the greatest Test Match of all time. England had scored 407 runs on Day One. In response, Austraila only scored 308 runs on Day Two. England therefore had a 99 run lead; which increased to 124 runs as Strauss and Trescothick batted out the last few overs in the 2nd day's play.
In the very last over, captian Ricky Ponting decided Warnie should get a bowl; just to see what he could do. With his first delivery, Warnie turns it a mile, missing everything in sight...
Warnie's eyes light up. He quickly realised the potential of what's was on offer and slowly sets up his field... perhaps to build up the tension... Maybe he knew something special was about to come; and it certainly did. (He's not known as Mr Hollywood for nothing.)
This vid features Michael Slater's unedited commentary and a technical analysis from Simon Hughes. Also, another playing of the Gatting ball mid way through... which is always fun to see.
