sometimes I envy the unliving,
dolls and rocks and fibres
for when I do not rise,
I will not see the sun again
and they go on
filling spaces in rooms and forests

and I will never feel the wind:
for when I do not rise,
It will be like none of this
has ever
happened

But dolls and rocks and fibres
have never smelled the sea salt:
never tasted or loved
or heard:
Music

And I must remember that,
for a cosmic instant,
I rose
and
matter turned to breathing, feeling me
