Liberal Radio Host: 'Big Mistake to Pay the Death Benefits' to Military Families

On his radio show Thursday morning, Bill Press declared that it would be a mistake for the government to pay out the death benefits to the families of fallen soldiers. According to the liberal radio host, once the government starts making special exceptions, it allows the shutdown to continue.

"What I'm going to say, no one else will say, but I'm going to say it anyway," Press began: "I think it's a big mistake to pay the death benefits to the families of members of the military who are killed in Afghanistan and whose bodies are being brought back to Dover Air Force base and were not going to get benefits because of the government shutdown."

Press offered praise for the private charity Fisher House Foundation who "stepped up to the plate" and offered to pay the benefits in lieu of the Pentagon, stating that the problem is essentially "fixed."

"The government does some great things," Press added. "When you shut down the government, a lot of great things are not going to get done. And why should we make an exception for those that just happen to pop up and get a lot of media attention?"
