Recently, two experiments, ATLAS and CMS, at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, announced that they have experimental evidence for the existence of the Higgs boson. Wisely, they are being very circumspect to ensure that no mistakes are made and things are not announced prematurely, but it looks pretty good so far.
This video is intended to be a short, elucidating, and hopefully entertaining explanation.
