Tom Tsai (Taiwan/USA) perform at Breakin' Convention 2014 at Sadler's Wells in London. MEAN: Where spoken word juxtaposes bboy movement.

Tom Tsai, originally from Taipei, Taiwan, is currently based out of Los Angeles. As his identity teeters between Taiwanese and American cultures, his dance identity does the same with breaking and modern. Being situated between two distinct histories in both his cultural and dance backgrounds, Tom seeks to represent his lineage with integrity while exploring innovative possibilities to craft an individual voice.

Tom's work investigates creative movement, authenticity in performance, and identity representation. He has guest taught Breaking and Modern technique classes in Los Angeles, New York, Sweden, Taiwan, and Thailand. His solo work has been presented throughout California and New York, and internationally at ABUNDANCE Dance Festival in Sweden (supported by the Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant), Quinzena Contemporary Dance Festival in Portugal, and Breakin' Convention at Sadler's Wells in London.

Tom previously competed with Instant Noodles Crew, and currently dances with LA-based modern/contemporary companies Pennington Dance Group, and Laurie Cameron & Company.
