The dragon cactus (aka pitaya, aka dragon fruit) flowers only bloom once and it occurs overnight. It starts at dusk and is in full bloom at around midnight. It stays that way til the sun comes up and it closes again to become a fruit in 15 days. Here it is in time lapse, made by yours truly. 1,571 frames in 13 hours. -- Location: Burgos, Ilocos Norte. Philippines Date: June 15, 2011 Equipment: Pentax K-x with DA 12-24mm lens; ASUS laptop with PK Tether application to do the interval shooting. -- Thanks to REFMAD V Farms' Edita Dacuycuy (Gawad Saka 2011 National Awardee, HVCC category) for giving me this wonderful opportunity to shoot their plants. I couldn't have done it without your assistance and your lighting, electricity, and hospitality!
