Mon people in Canada celebrated the 64th Anniversary of Mon National Day. Mon National Day is the founding day of Hongsawatoi City and establish Mon kingdom Rehmonya Desa ( Monland).

In 572 AD, two Mon brothers: Samala and Vimala with 170 Mon families founded the city of Hongsawatoi ( now Bago) and established Mon kingdom (lower Burma). Mon kingdom was freedom, peaceful, prosperity and rich in culture and religion which was flourishing for many centuries. Until May 5,1757, Burmese king U Aungzeya ( Alaungpaya) brutally killed thousands of Mon people included men, women, children, unborn children and monks. The survival of Mon people fled to Thailand for their safe heaven. Today we celebrate Mon National Day to promote our culture, language, and our generation as a national identity. On the 64th Mon National Day, we perform our cultural dance, Mon music, serving Mon food and and the speech from community leaders. Happy Mon National Day.
