Redford Township Motel Beating Caught on Tape

myFOXDetroit.com Staff - A surveillance camera captured a man being beaten until he is knocked out cold inside a Redford Township motel. It happened a few weeks ago. The victim survived. Police are now releasing the video in hopes of catching the suspects involved.

Watch two videos in the player: The first, a full report from Fox 2's Robin Schwartz. The second, raw video obtained from a motel security camera. See the beating, see a cleaning crew walk by and do nothing, see the man stumble to get up and leave.

From the look of the video, the victim did not know what was about to hit him, but moments later he was knocked to the ground and knocked unconscious by three suspects who rushed him at once.

"It's a very violent act what they did. They hit him, knocked him down and started to kick him," said Jonathan Strong with Redford Township Police.

When the victim in his forties stopped moving, the suspects took off, but the camera kept rolling. A cleaning crew later walked by with a vacuum like nothing ever happened.

"I (saw) the tape, but (there was) nothing to it," said motel employee Clarence Harper. "Some misunderstanding they had with each other. That's all it was."

Harper was asked by FOX 2's Robin Schwartz if he felt badly for the man lying in the hall.

"I did, but evidently he had some altercations with (those) people," he said.

Harper is the maintenance man at the Coach and Lantern Motel on Grand River where police say drugs and prostitution are an ongoing problem.
