This is the easiest way to create your very own ringtones, especially if you have Verizon or do not have an iPhone. But it works for all major carriers. The ringtone can't really be longer than 30 seconds or else Verizon may not send it through to your phone, because anything longer than that is too big of a file. I'll show you in this video how to lower the quality of the song if you want to have a longer song.
There is a way to get full length songs on your phone and use them as ringtones, and I will probably be making a tutorial for that in the near future. Subscribe and you'll know when the update comes!
I forgot to mention that in the effects tab of Audacity, you have the option to fade in at the beginning and fade out at the end. That way you won't poop your pants when your super heavy death metal ringtone comes on in the middle of the night. =] And of course, you can always create your own songs from scratch or use effects!
