My name is Dr. Eric Khetia, and I'm at Summit Orthopedics. My specialty is sports medicine and arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery. Something that a lot of my patients find surprising is, even though I participated in college athletics, a lot of times you give up sports after that time. But I actually love participating in sports more than ever. So I continue to play tennis. It's funny: my mother and father do yoga. And when they came to visit me a few years ago up here in Minnesota, they said, "You need to start going." Now that's one of my passions. My brother, who's also a surgeon, he was having some low back pain so he started Pilates. And he said, "You need to start doing that. As a surgeon, it's a job requirement." So I started doing that. So all these patients come to me and tell me about the sports they play - I usually have tried them or am still playing them. You know it's funny - I see a lot of kids, and all age groups really, who are convinced that if they cannot play their sport, the world's going to come to an end. And the funny thing is, when I was at that stage in college, I felt the same way. And when you get some perspective, you realize that's obviously not the case. But it's important to them, and I take that very seriously. And my goal is to get them back, and it may take some time. The vast majority of the time, it doesn't require surgical intervention. But I listen to them because I've been there. I understand where they're coming from.
