Lower Urinary Tract Obstructions (LUTO) are rare anatomic defects where the urethra of a fetus is obstructed and prevents proper growth in utero. The Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment at CHOP offers unparalleled services for families with lower urinary tract obstructions. In this video, CHOP experts discuss lower urinary tract obstructions -- which, in the past, were often fatal because of the impact on fetal lung growth -- and a promising prenatal treatment now available. One family tells their story from prenatal diagnosis of LUTO, to assessment at CHOP; from prenatal surgical treatment, to this baby's birth and his long-term prospects. Today, the future is bright for this active toddler.
