Once there were three ducks who lived on a pond. One day they heard a rustling noise in the bushes and they were afraid. 'A fox! A fox!' they cried. 'He will eat us up for his dinner.' Brown Duck flew to the edge of the pond and sat in the mud where she couldn't be seen. Green Duck flew away into the long grass. He knew that the grass hid his green feathers. They both forgot all about little White Duck. She was so afraid that she didn't know what to do, so, she stayed right where she was, in the middle of the blue pond. She was sure Mr Fox would catch her. Then, out of the bushes and along the path came a little boy rustling a paper bag. 'Look, Mummy. What a lovely white duck!' said the little boy. 'Can I feed her?' He threw some crusty bread out of his paper bag. Brown Duck and Green Duck watched from there hiding-places. They saw the little White Duck enjoying her dinner, and they felt very hungry!
