A dramatic two-hour chase on the NSW central coast came to a sudden halt this morning when two alleged carjackers fleeing in a BMW smashed into a police vehicle.
The 25-year-old man and 24-year-old woman led police on the dangerous car and chopper chase from Warnervale after they were first spotted driving erratically in an allegedly stolen Ford XR6 about 9am.
It is alleged the couple was armed with a gun, and abandoned the Ford midway through the chase to carjack a BMW at Beresfield after evading police.
The chase ended about 11.30am when the BMW crashed into a police car in the Hunter Valley town of Broke, after road spikes sent it swerving out of control.
The officer inside the vehicle was not injured.
A police media spokeswoman said the pair had been arrested and would be charged later today.
Police will allege a gun found near the crash site was thrown from the BMW, she added.
Social media sites were earlier buzzing with false reports that police were in a high-speed chase with alleged murderer Malcolm Naden, one of NSW's most wanted fugitives who has been on the run since 2005 - 16 December 2011.
