In 2009, composer/trumpeter/singer-songwriter Sarah Wilson met aerialists C. Derrick Jones and Nehara Kalev at a Djerassi Artist Residency, in Woodside, Ca. The duo, known as Catch Me Bird, and Sarah Wilson began playing around in the studio and two years later have made their collaboration official. As a 2012 Artist Fellow, Sarah Wilson will be working with Catch Me Bird on a new work, "Off the Walls," which is inspired by the architecture of the de Young and the work of Harlem-Renaissance painter Aaron Douglas, who is Great-Uncle to Jones. During an alumni residency in February 2012, the three artists did improvisational work in the groves of Djerassi, and talked with the de Young about "Off the Walls."
