1.25.12: Physicist  Ellery Schempp staged a protest against the school requirement that each student read 10 Bible passages and the Lord's Prayer each day during homeroom in 1956. He challenged the requirement and won a landmark Supreme court decision in 1963. Last night he was just one of the more than 100 people on both sides of the recent school prayer-banner decision wanting to address the Cranston School Committee meeting. Schempp joined other who had come to support Jessica Ahlquist in arguing against an appeal of the the recent decision against displaying a prayer banner at the Cranston West HS. No one from either side of the issue got a chance to speak after board members announced they would school budget discussion at the meeting. Providence Journal video by Kris Craig
