The two wildcards for me are Shore and Coffey. Shore played in a much, much different era. He deserves his respect so it may be unfair to leave him off of a list like this, but it's just too hard to place him accurately I think. Coffey is likely the 2nd best puck mover, but does that make him the 5th best defenseman? His ranking all depends on how much you value his skill. Personally he's borderline to be in my top 10 only because I value more of an all-round game instead. Good list though.
1.Orr - any list that doesn't start with him should be thrown out 2.Potvin - did it all- and captained one of the greatest dynasties in sports 3.Bourque - did it all too, slightly less of a rock than Potvin but all-round incredible 4.Harvey - far too young to truly rank him, but place him here based on rep 5.Robinson - strong as an ox,tough as nails, skate like the wind too. Crazy +\- 6.Lidstrom - steady and consistent as they come 7.Chelios 8.Stevens 9.Coffey 10.Park Shore is too early
What no Serge Savard?

Almost every top 10 is arguable, but you have made a top 10 i find it hard to argue with! Awesome stuff!!

I'm 60 years old and have been playing and watching this great game since 1962, so I can only go by what I've seen. For me that means no Eddie Shore because it would be like saying Ruth was the greatest and he was dead before I was born. I saw Harvey play at the end with the Blues so he's out too and the same for Kelly. Hard to name only 10. Orr-Potvin-Bourque-Lindstrom-Robinson-Park-Leetch-Stevens-Salming-Savard-Lapointe-Langway-Lowe-Coffey. Coffey was awful in his own end but his numbers...
Is this a hendrix song?

Harvey never went end to end like Orr and you never see Lidstrom go end to end or go to far out of his wayto block shots like orr or hit and fight
