The Patterer is a hilarious novel by former TV news anchorman Larry Brill. Lampooning the business, he drops today's modern newscast into the lap of a smark-aleck news guy in 18th century London. The hero is a common street performer, known in those days as a "patterer" because of their exceptional storytelling skills. After a drunken encounter with Ben Franklin, the hero assembles a zany cast of characters to create history's first "live news performance" and it leads to fame and fortune until he has to risk it all for the love of a conniving wench. Think Monty Python meets Charles Dickens in this delightfully twisted tale.
