The circulation of a video purportedly showing Texas Judge William Adams beating his teenage daughter with a belt has caused public outcry.

The video was posted on YouTube and has a description that states it was filmed in 2004. The description is signed, "Hillary Adams, his daughter."

"Aransas County Court at Law Judge William Adams took a belt to his own teenage daughter as punishment for using the internet to acquire music and games that were unavailable for legal purchase at the time," the description reads. "She has had ataxic cerebral palsy from birth that led her to a passion for technology, which was strictly forbidden by her father's backwards views."

In the video, Adams does not appear to know the camera is on. He repeatedly beats his daughter, attempting to force her to lay on her bed.

Adams told Corpus Christi television station KZTV that the video "looks worse than it is," and that he doesn't expect to receive disciplinary action for it, CBS reported.

"In my mind, I haven't done anything wrong other than discipline my child after she was caught stealing," Adams told KZTV. "And I did lose my temper, but I've since apologized."

Comments varied from finding the video humorous to calls for the judge to be beaten.

"This is the most horrific thing I have ever seen," one person commented. "A parent is supposed to be one who protects you, not do such unspeakable things! He deserves jail and nothing else. This man is not fit to call himself a father."

"In my day we called this discipline, not child abuse," another commented. "What is the world coming to?"

The video has had nearly a million views by Wednesday night. It was uploaded Oct. 27.
