The Waterline Bar - Regent's Canal N1 5RY
Ama Bazar' is a new group formed by Alice Mary Williamson (clarinet), Anisa Arslanagic (viola) and Tim Sharp (piano). We're very happy to be joined by the marvellous Mehdi Ganjvar on percussion and santour.
Centering around Balkan tunes and tangos, Ama Bazar have highly dispersed musical backgrounds -- Cuban dance, Peruvian folk, Argentine Tango, Balkan folk, Klezmer, gypsy swing, classical string quartet -- and regularly work with artists from other styles (such as flamenco, manouche). They have a bright, positive & energetic edge with a foundation of danceable rhythms, but always giving reflective space both for performers and listeners. Often thrown unexpectedly into their performances are moments of instrument switching and even tango dancing..
