"You are Welcome Here" was written and performed by Toronto based Canadian/Australian songwriter Robert Graham (www.robertgraham.org)
The song is written in support of Jose Figueroa, a Salvadoran refugee who has lived in British Columbia, Canada for 16 years. A husband and father of three children (including one with autism), he has been placed under a deportation order by the Federal Government of Canada because of his NON-VIOLENT opposition to the brutal right-wing dictatorship of El Salvador in the 1980s. This government killled nearly 80,000 people and was notorious for brutal torture and the use of death squads to silence anyone deemed to be in opposition. Please visit www.wearejose.org for more information. Political and financial support is desperately needed!
As part of a fundraising campaign to pay for the legal defence of Jose Figuero this song and video is for sale for a MINIMUM donation of $1.95. All proceeds go to help retain a lawyer to fight this injustice. Please consider buying the song and supporting an innocent man:
There is a real fear that Jose could be deported, and ripped away from his family at anytime. Your support is needed now more than ever. It is a terrible state of affairs when a government can deport someone for his PEACEFUL opposition to a vicious government. It should be a wakeup call to all Canadians!
The Public Safety Minister Vic Toews should be making a decision on an application filed in 2010 on Jose's case. He can be reached at email@example.com. Please let him know how you feel about his approach to keeping Canada safe! The Canadian government has already assured Jose that being deported is not so bad because he "can keep in touch with his family on SKYPE" Yes - you heard that right!
Please join our campaign at www.wearejose.org
Thanks to Glen Alan at Find A Way Studios Toronto (www.findaway.ca) and Robert Graham (www.robertgraham.org) for the song!
