Noel Alfonso is an ichthyologist with the Canadian Museum of Nature. His research involves the taxonomy and systematics of fish species. The specimens and data that he collects from the field are compared to long-term data sets, and can yield information about changes to the environment. For example, data on an indicator species such as the Brook Silverside, a fish that is sensitive to water quality, may indicate a problem with river health.
