Oct 31, 2012 - The Human Rights Channel has been covering the Syrian war through the eyes of activists, residents, and fighters on the ground. Their YouTube uploads reveal scenes of courage and injustice in raw and often disturbing intimacy. But of the hundreds of the citizen videos we've sifted through, a small minority feature women.
While thousands have fled to refugee camps with their children to escape the violence, thousands more Syrian women remain in the embattled country, and are playing an active role in the uprising. As revealed in these videos, they are taking to the streets in mass demonstrations, attending to injured Syrians in field hospitals, and taking up weapons and forming all-female brigades to fight for the downfall of President Bashar al-Assad.
