Battle Winner Announced at 4pm
The High Altitude Battle of Teen Bands and Boards will be held Saturday, September 5 at Hideaway Park in Winter Park from 10:30 am to 4:30pm.
The Battle of the Bands is a contest in which six Colorado teen bands from Summit, Grand and Boulder Counties will play a range of different styles of music including Rock, Blues, Indie and Alternative, competing for the title of "Best Band Above 9,000 Feet" and Most Promising Vocalist, Guitarist, Drummer and Bassist. Each band will perform for thirty minutes. The winners will be determined by a panel of local judges and will be judged on overall performance, stage presence, musical ability and appearance. The winner will receive a cash prize
The Headliner for the Battle of the Bands comes all the way from Colorado Springs -Young Austin and No Difference. The band will dazzle the crowd with an amazing performance with special guest drummer John Carey. John is a member of Blue Star Connection, a Grand County Blues Society program that gets instruments for kids battling illnesses. Beaver Village Condo's have provided John's family with a condo for the weekend.
In between each battler, the audiences can turn its attention to the skate park to check out the Battle of Boards. Each skater will be riding in different age groups. Age groups are the following: 3-8 yr olds, 9-12 yr olds, 13-16 yr olds and 17-26 yr olds. Skaters will be judged on their capability and style. Helmets and a parent signature are required. Skaters can pre- register at the Winter Park Visitor Center or at the Hideaway Skate Park from 9-10:15am the day of the event.
During the battles, people enjoy ice cream from the Rudis Ice Cream cart and munch on tasty hot dogs, which are top quality and donated by Enid Strong of the GCBS, proceeds from the hot dogs will go to the Grand County Blues Societys Blues In The Schools program. Great free swag from Sky-Hi Daily News, Battle of the Boards & Bands t-shirts will be given out while supplies last.
