Even Less Gears is a variation of my Gear Cube and Gear Cube Extreme, both produced by Mefferts.com. Gear Cube is a Rubik's Cube with 12 geared edges. Gear Cube Extreme is a more difficult version with only 8 geared edges. So why not taking this concept one step further?
Even Less Gears has only four geared edges. So four faces can make quarter turns like a Rubik's Cube, whereas the fifth and sixth face are coupled through the gears. However, one scrambled, more faces get coupled. The fact that sometimes faces are coupled and sometimes not, makes this puzzle arguably harder than Gear Cube Extreme.
Bonus question: how many essentially different puzzles of this type do exist, that is, replacing geared edges of the Gear Cube by non-geared edges?
