LIVE: Israeli President Rivlin gives Benny Gantz mandate to form government

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin is set to give opposition Blue and White party leader Benny Gantz with the mandate to form a government on Wednesday, October 23 in Jerusalem.

On Monday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he had failed to form a new coalition that can win a Knesset majority after almost four weeks of trying.

Gantz will have 28 days to form a government. If he fails to muster a new government, any Knesset Member will have 21 days to secure a majority in Parliament. If no one succeeds, a new election will be announced.
