SONG: "I Still Have A Long Way To Go," recorded with the Chicago Community Choir. From the album OPEN OUR EYES (Gospel Records).
On September 26, 2011, Jessy Dixon, a very familiar name in Gospel music, died. He was seventy-three (73) years old. He worked/sung with many people in the field of music, including the late Milton Brunson, the late James Cleveland, the Gospel Chimes, the Chicago Community Choir, Paul Simon, and the Gaithers, to name a few.
I have heard him quote in a video that Mahalia Jackson approached him many years ago and prophesied that he would be doing exactly what she was doing. Many of us feel that she meant crossing over to a wider audience, be it Caucasions, etc. Mahalia was right! Everyone LOVED Jessy Dixon.
He recorded a number of albums and has caused church folks to fall in love with many songs such as, "I Am Redeemed," "Sit At His Feet And Be Blessed," "These Old Heavy Burdens," and "Nothing But The Blood," naming only a few.
May you forever rest in peace, Rev. Jessy Dixon! You will be missed!
