Wooden interior shutters will add to the interior design of your home decor, they are easy fit DIY or ask a local handyman to help you.

Shutter expert Sam Dunster provides design tips and advice on fitting the perfect shutter.

Assemble the shutter frame by turning the frame over, pulling the mitres together and inserting the interlocking keys.

Once the frame is assembled you are ready to fit your wooden shutters to the window.

With small windows you can fit the shutters in the frame first, turn the frame back over, lift in the shutters and drop in the hinge pins to contact the frame and shutters together.

With larger windows you will need to lift the frame into place, wedge it into position and then lift the shutters into place.

Place two wedges onto the window sill and lift the shutter frame on top of the wedges, there will be a 5mm shadow gap that allows you to adjust the frame left/right and up and down.

Insert some more fitting wedges to hold the frame in place, you can then screw the frame to your window.

Finally, replace the insert strips to cover the screw heads and your wooden shutters are complete.
