Rusalka was not only a spirit from a water... It was in fact a "demon" (not to mix with Abrahamic Christian, Judaical & Islamic demons) which lived also in forests, mountains, water, etc. Women were cleaning / washing their bodies and the tradition was called RAZ-Rusalenye or "out of rusalka" (body).
