This is the best finish to date at Magny-Cours [started 10th, finished 2nd]. Wore out the tires scrambling for early position, and never managed to catch up with Schumacher. Ferrari lose second place in the Constructors' but Alesi decreases his gap to championship leader Hill. Entering the half way point the championship is a close three-way race.
Scored fastest lap, which was surprising after the debacle of qualifying.
