from the opening of the video: WHERE I LIVE A Public Transportation Ride with ANDY CAFFREY

A couple of years after I moved back to Garberville in 1997, Greyhound down-sized out of existence the only bus route within 50 miles of us.

After working for several years with others in my community we got our county bus route back! This year I've been working with people in Richardson Grove Action Now!, lawyers, and others to stop a 100% taxpayer-paid $10 million Caltrans boondoggle, a road-widening of Highway 101 and Avenue of the Giants through Richardson Grove State Park, the first state park in California.

On March 30, 2011, just a few miles north of my home, a massive mudslide took out all of Highway 101. It was entirely closed for over a week. As of June 2011, it still has only one lane in each direction. On April 15, shortly after they reopened the highway, I traveled 65 miles on the bus to Eureka to plan an anti-nuclear power rally for Chernobyl's 25th anniversary on April 26 at our own Humboldt Bay Nuclear Power Plant.

Coming home I was inspired to videotape the mudslide, but decided to start shooting 15 miles north of Garberville through Avenue of the Giants. The music is 1980s Gaiabilly songs from the Earth First! Timber Wars that saved Headwaters Forest.

Richardson Grove is 10 miles south of Garberville and footage of it is added at the end of this video. I hope you will notice the difference between the fragmented remnant native forest you will see on the bus ride with the magnificent Old Growth Forest in Richardson Grove.

Then I hope you will join us and do what it takes to assure the redirection of $10 million away from out-dated Caltrans fossil-fuel expansion projects like the one in Richardson Grove and back to our schools, hospitals, and public safety workers to meet the needs of our communities.

This is Where I Live. This is my home and this is where I will fight for my country!
