The Laysan Albatross are the largest flying birds in the world. Locking their wings into a rigid form they glide for days at a time even sleeping while flying. Skilled at using the winds and gravity they search for food in the range of entire Northern Pacific from the Hawaiian Islands to the subarctic waters near Alaska Mainland USA. We can enjoy the antics of the adult birds bobbing their heads as they dance, strut, waddle, clack their beaks making a variety of sounds, whistles and mooing. Well groomed with white porcelain head feathers and ebony eyes with a gray shadow make them attractive with dark brown feathered large wings tucked inward. The male and the female have the same coloring the male larger with a dominant head each pair lays a single egg generally in December. After two months of incubation around February 13 Forever Andy Irons Day the small fuzzy chick emerges by "pipping" or breaking out the end of the shell. Chicks are attended by both parents during the first several weeks the parents cover the chick much like an egg to keep it warm and dry sharing equally in the egg-sitting and nest building routines thank you. The male and the female have the same coloring the male is larger with a dominant head and larger beak. Each Albatross pair lays a single egg generally in the month of December. This Albatross pair's egg arrived December 3, 2010. After two months of incubation around Andy Irons Day Forever on February 13 the small fuzzy chick emerges by "pipping" or breaking out the end of the shell. Chicks are attended by both parents during the first several weeks the parents cover the chick much like a chicken does with her eggs. Except Albatross only have a single hopefully, fertilized egg per Albatross mating season. A Layson Albatross couple tends to the nesting duties and keeps the fertile egg warm and dry sharing equally in the egg-sitting and nest building routines. This lovely pair of Laysan Albatross can be seen on my property Bali Hai Hale. This Albatross pair are lifelong nesters complete with a fertile egg when the chick does its pipping and hatches it will be named Andy after Lyndie's baby. This Albatross couple was the first pair to lay an egg and have a fertile egg this Albatross mating season in Princeville at Hanalei Kauai Hawaii USA bravo thank you. KauAIcr07 #134
