He's terrorized audiences in over 25 films and now Warner Brothers will make it 26...Godzilla returns to theatres in 2014. The guys behind the Dark Knight trilogy and the upcoming Man of Steel movie are resurrecting the infamous giant lizard...but this time it's a grittier, more grounded tale. At the helm of this latest reboot is British indie director Gareth Edwards...he directed a small, low-budget feature called Monsters in 2010...which explores the realistic side of a giant alien invasion...the same style of filmmaking Warner Brothers and Legendary pictures hope Godzilla can recreate.
The original announcement of the fire-breathing beasts return came at this year's Comic Con, where surpised fans in hall H witnessed Legendary's apocolyptic conceptual trailer for the film...and overall, the repsonse was very positive. The trailer featured Godzilla's iconic roar echoing over a city in ruins, and even hinted at a monster nemesis for Godzilla. Legendary and director Gareth Edwards assured fans they plan to embrace the franchise's classical roots in an updated setting. Writers from The Expendables, the dark knight trilogy and The Seventh Son penned the script and the film is being developed in partnership with Godzilla rights owner Toho. Primed for a worldwide release, the film will make it's May 16, 2014 premiere in 3D...but no word yet as to whether it will be true 3D or post-converted. We're also not sure who'll be starring in the film, but be sure to keep it locked on Clevver Movies for more Godzilla news as we get it. I'm Simone Boyce in Hollywood and thanks for watching!
