On the evening of Thursday, Dec. 8th two members of Occupy Springfield, IL. were detained by police officers for using their First Amendment rights of free speech. What did they do? They used Water Soluble Sidewalk Chalk in front of a U.S. Rep's (Aaron Schock) office! After being detained each gentleman was ticketed for "vandalism" at the cost of $500.00. The city ordinance used to write these fines is pretty clear that non-permanent chalk is not, in fact, vandalism.
