R.E.M. promises fans their next album is their best record ever! Stick around for what Michael Stipe has to say!

Hey guys, I'm Bridget Daly for Clevver Music. Now all you R.E.M. fans are undoubtedly excited about the band's upcoming album coming out in March. Their 15 studio release entitled Collapse Into Now may just be their best work yet. Bassist Mike Mills told Rolling Stone the 12-track album is quote "our best record since Out of Time. R.E.M. released that album back in 1991-a project many would agree was the turning point in their career. R.E.M. scored three Grammy Awards for Out of Time, and sold over 18 million copies. The biggest hit off the album is the track "Losing My Religion."

But the question remains-can Collapse Into Now hold a candle to their previous work? Guitarist Peter Buck says, "This is, song for song, the best thing we've ever done ... A lot of people say we did our best work in the early '90s. But 15 years later, here we are again." Fans will be happy to hear Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder is featured on the album, along with Peaches, Patti Smith, Lenny Kaye. It'll feature rock anthems, slow sad songs, and great mid-tempo songs in the tradition of R.E.M. But don't expect a tour to follow the album-Mills explained, "We don't tour to prop up records -- that's not why we play live music."

Collapse Into Now hits stores on March 8. We want to hear from you R.E.M. fans! Can it live up to the hype? Or is Out of Time always going to be the band's best album. Best since New Adventures in Hi-Fi and I really like that one, often overlooked and I don't know why, solid. This one's still to new to me to make a definitive 'better than this or that' but listened now a bunch and yea, best since Adventues, better than Accelerate...

Excellent album:)

It's truly a fantastic album but for me Murmur, Reckoning and Fables of the Reconstruction will always be their best albums :)

Out of time is not their best! Sales don't equal quality

@whb1965 only becos it sold lots of records and got grammys doesn't mean it is their best work, maybe their most mainstream work. out of time is alright, maybe in the top 10 of mine, but nowhere near Automatic!
