This is a small tutorial of solving the case of a CD drive not being detected on the "My Computer" screen voiding it from working properly.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116

Here is the address to the registration: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

If this doesn't work try this:
When you restart the computer click the button for Bios. Once bios settings come up click on drives and find the SATA drive which has your cd drive. Make sure it is checked. If it is unchecked it means it wont show and you would have to mark on it, save and restart. If there is no SATA drive showing your drive at all, it means your drive is not physically connected properly.
