Jason Penney - President USW Local 6285 Wabush, Labrador - This is a song I wrote about my local a few years back shortly after a strike we had in 2004, played here at our District 6 Director Wayne Fraser's social after attending the 2009 Atlantic Provinces Conference. while at the conference I got the opportunity to learn a lot about my Brothers and Sisters out of Local 5908 of Voisey's Bay and the Stike they have waged against Vale Inco, to protect their rights, their benefits, and wages. I thought about playing this song before the conference but I'd never performed it in Public and don't really play much guitar. After hearing the details of that fight, witnessing the strength of their leadership and the feeling the solidarity that was just oozing out of that room there was no way I couldn't play it. I received such a warm reception that they convinced me to play it again and asked me to put the video on here to share with all our sisters and brothers. I want to thank everyone at the social for their kind words it was great meeting you and you're great people.A shout out to Darren Cove President of Local 5908 his negotiating team, and all the strong brothers and sister's of that local who have made the right choice to stand up for yourselves, your families and each other. Keep up the fight, stay strong and to any Steelworkers and locals out there that can help please do what you can.
