RICHARD BONA, born Minta, Cameroon, 1967, is a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and composer. Richard Bona sings of life experiences in the language of Douala, the city where he grew up. His music has the ability to move listeners towards a global human vision that exudes innocence and commitment, radiates happiness, vigour, truth and above all, reaffirms the need to live life to the full. Considered as one of the best bass players in the music world, his CV is certainly extensive, as he has the enviable ability to master any instrument he turns his hand to. At eleven years old he was already working as a professional; at twenty-two and an expert bass player, he travelled to Paris, the Promised Land for all African musicians wanting to get their music heard in Europe. In 1999 he began his solo career and has the trilogy Scenes from my life (99), Reverence (01) and Mumia: the tale (03) and Tiki (05), until now his last album, to his name. Bona, now established in Manhattan, brings to his art all the strength of his African roots, Jazz and his hard hitting lyrical reflections. His sound, which is beautiful, exact, harmonious and deeply influenced by his idol Jaco Pastorius, doesn't rely strictly on technique, but on his ability to go where the performance takes him. Malaga concert features: RICHARD BONA -- bass and vocals, ETIENNE STADWIJK -- keyboards, TAYLOR HASKINS -- trumpet, ADAM STOLER -- guitar, ERNESTO SIMPSON -- drums, SAMUEL TORRES -- percussion.
