I compared 4 popular media server apps, including Plex, Tversity, TVMobili and Mezzmo, running on my pc and presented my observations on my 2011 model Panasonic GT20E plasma TV set. All apps are running with default settings, no adjustments are made. I have added same folders as content in each application. Sources are from cameras like; Canon video camera(mts), Sony T series compact cameras(mpg), Panasonic Lumix LX-5(mts), smartphones like; Sony Xperia S, Nokia Lumia 720, LG G2 all mp4 iPhone 4 & 5 and iPad in mov format Downloaded files like mkv, avi and wmv. Copied from dvds in vob formats.
The result: No app could stream my mkv files. Plex is a total disappointment for me because I did not see any successful streaming with it, only streams mts in a very annoying-interrupted way TVersity, no iOS formats llike mov, no mpg, mp4 streaming, streamed some of avi, but was good at mts and vob TVMobili was good at mov, avi, vob and some mpg, mp4, but no mts streaming. Mezzmo was able to stream everything except mkv, as I mentioned all failed in that format. but Mezzmo was successful in mts, mpg, mp4, vob, avi, mov. Mezzmo has a convert button to convert files which are not suitable to stream, probably it can work for my mkv files but I did not try it since this is a default settings- out of the box testing.
